The Secure Digital Wallet: Self-Custody as Sovereignty Training

The Secure Digital Wallet: Self-Custody as Sovereignty Training

Intermediate

You check your phone and a charge you didn't make is on your bank app. Or your inbox has a 'login from a new device' email you didn't trigger. Or -- the soft version -- a finance app you use just announced a breach.

That's the cost of renting. Renting your auth from a phone carrier. Renting your security from a company whose business model is selling the data behind it. Renting your savings to a custodian whose terms-of-service say they can freeze you mid-transaction. The 2022 Canadian trucker convoy is the textbook case: legally-acquired money, frozen by banks in hours. Executive Order 6102, 1933, is the same thing in older clothes.

This course teaches the keys principle. You hold the keys, you own the asset. You don't, you hold a promise. We start with the boring-but-load-bearing stuff -- password managers, MFA upgrades, phishing pattern recognition, browser hardening, secure messaging -- then graduate to hardware wallets, seed phrases, multisig, and a privacy stack you actually run.

The stretch goal isn't crypto fluency. It's the mental model. The same logic that says your bitcoin keys belong to you says your AI agent should belong to you. Cloud Landlords -- the OpenAI / Anthropic / Google stack -- are renting you intelligence today the way custodians were renting custody yesterday. Self-custody for money is the gateway pattern to Sovereign AI. Same enemy. Same answer.

By the end: a working hardware wallet with verifiable backup, a hardened browser/extension setup, phishing-resistant authentication, and the Sovereign AI frame the next courses build on.
